Class of 2023 Forty Under 40 Nathan Akers General Manager ARMI Manufacturing, Fayetteville

Nathan Akers joked that he’s a U.S. native as he lived throughout the country growing up and while working as a traveling welder. Still, if he had to choose a hometown, it would be Broken Bow, Okla., because he lived there for 14 years.

In 2020, Akers joined the manufacturing division of Arkansas Myriad Inc. (ARMI) in Fayetteville after 10 years of traveling the United States as a welder.

“They provided me an opportunity to quit traveling,” he said. “It’s nice to be able to be home, around your family and do things you like to do.”

He started at ARMI Manufacturing as a journeyman fabricator/pipe fitter. He soon moved from the shop to the office as an account manager/estimator. In the role, he developed processes and procedures that improved efficiency, increased organization, promoted teamwork and improved margins for the company. He also was an interim recruiter, helping to find and hire talent, especially for trade roles.

In the fall of 2022, he was promoted to his existing position. He oversees and improves manufacturing operations, establishes and drives production goals, and develops processes and procedures. He also ensures compliance with safety regulations and standard operating procedures, providing resources and training.

Akers is motivated by seeing others succeed, such as those he recruited for the company. He pointed to taking on the challenge of his existing role as a career highlight. He oversees about 65 employees.

He aims to master his existing role before growing into another position, such as vice president or one yet to be created.

Akers has participated in numerous volunteer projects, including supporting the Ronald McDonald House of Arkhoma, Arkansas FFA and Operation Christmas Child. He enjoys playing golf and watching Dallas Cowboys football.
