Dpa Chair Will Bond’s Name Making Second District Rounds
Democratic Party of Arkansas Chairman Will Bond for Congress?
There have been conversations making the political circuit this week to recruit DPA chairman Will Bond to run for the Second District Congressional seat against first-term Republican Rep. Tim Griffin.
Multiple sources confirm the effort to Talk Business, but asked to remain off-the-record as they were not authorized to comment.
Bond would obviously have to step down as party chairman if he were to embark on a Second District run and that might require a blessing from Gov. Mike Beebe, the titular head of the Democratic Party.
Bond, an attorney with the McMath Woods law firm, is a former State Representative from the northern Pulaski County area — a pivotal swing part of the Second District. He would bring community ties in Jacksonville and the surrounding region, name recognition, and a track record of service to the ballot.
Talk Business reached Bond for comment. He said he has been approached, but is focused on others who are contemplating a run.
"Arkansans deserve representation in the Second District that is committed to getting things done and building a brighter future for our kids. Griffin is committed to supporting the continued gridlock in Washington," said Bond. "The latest polls show that people disapprove of the job that he is doing. We’re working to recruit a strong candidate to beat Griffin and give Arkansans a responsible leader that can get things done."
The DPA has a state committee meeting planned this weekend in Conway, also in the Second Congressional District.
