Steven Husarik presents: Digital Transformation of Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”

Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” has become a staple of music largely because of its orchestral transcriptions (Ravel), rock arrangements (Emerson Lake and Palmer) and electronic music interpretations (Isao Tomita). Such works have given new life to the original music, but at what expense? Dr. Husarik will show how this piano piece has evolved into a totally new composition over the past century because of the growth of technology and misunderstandings about the original pictures that inspired the music.
