In February 2002, Kevin King was enjoying success in the Internet and communications business when he read the book “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki.

The book’s central theme, in King’s estimation, is, “if you aren’t on the path you want to be, go do something different.”

With that idea in mind, King got the bug for real estate, his father‘s industry for many years. King became a licensed Realtor in July 2002, and opened his own firm in 2005.
Rapid success followed. The Fort Smith Board of Realtors named King its Realtor of the Year in 2006 and by 2008, King Realty Group was the No. 1 real estate company in the Fort Smith market.

Today the company has about 30 agents and maintains around 180 listings. It closed $60 million in volume two years ago. King Realty Group began its affiliation with Weichert Realtors in January.

King, a licensed pilot since the age of 20, is also an avid sailor. In May, he and two others made passage on a sailboat from Bermuda to Newport, R.I.

“Six days without seeing land is different,” he said.

King and his wife, Elizabeth, who’ve known each other since they were 2-year-olds, are Fort Smith natives. They have been married for 16 years and share the same birthday — date, month and year.
