Cashiers included in Arkansas’ ‘Hot 45’ jobs list. Really.
The Web site of the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services (DWS) contains much information about job numbers, industry sectors, career guidance publications and other labor market related stuff.
Included in that is the “Hot 45” jobs for 2008-2009 according to DWS. The department qualifies specific jobs based on necessary skills, knowledge, training/education requirements, potential salary and expected openings in the field.
Hot 45 jobs include, their potential salary and expected annual openings include:
• Registered nurses, $52,600, 750
• Pharmacists, $94,410, 119
• Computer systems analysts, $60,190, 129
• Cashiers, $16,300, 2,314
Why is a cashier job listed as a Hot Job? The City Wire is not sure. Maybe because there are so many openings. We did, however, find a correlation between salary and expected number of annual openings. Which is to say, the higher the number of annual openings, the lower the potential salary. The old faithful supply-and-demand law strikes again.
The department also lists Arkansas’ top 10 job growth sectors for 2008-2009.
