Wally Hall of Shame

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette sports editor Wally Hall has made more than his share of fact errors, but one in his Oct. 11 column especially caught our eye.
After Arkansas’ 27-10 upset win at No. 2 Auburn, Hall wrote “Gus Malzahn, the offensive coordinator, probably didn’t call 45 running plays during his tenure at Springdale High.”
While we did detect some sarcasm in that line, Hall’s numbers were way off base.
Under Malzahn last year, Springdale actually ran more times (347) than it passed (280). In the first game alone, Malzahn called 37 running plays to beat Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian 35-7 on its home turf.
