Jean Beach manages risk.

The 37-year-old Hamburg, N.Y., native is responsible for “all direct managerial oversight of all trading and market risk management activities at Tyson Foods Inc.”

Before joining Tyson in 2002, she served as vice president of Enron’s North America division in Houston. Beach’s Enron tenure from 1995 to 2001 brought her from manager to director to the vice president position.

Beach said her advice to up-and-comers would be:

“Front load on responsibility, try to garner as many different perspectives as possible. Don’t take the path of least resistance, because you are not going to get those opportunities by doing the ‘trend du jour.'”

Beach earned her bachelor’s degree in economics at Massachusetts’ Wellesley College in 1989 and then went to Charles River Associates, an economic consulting firm where she served as an associate in the Boston office until 1992.

She earned her master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business in 1994.

Beach said being in an environment that creates “diversity of thought” motivates her to be successful.
