NWACF Funds Award College Scholarships

Eight college scholarships totaling $13,000 were awarded May 20 by funds under the Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation umbrella. Five NWACF funds — the Applegate Scholarship Fund, the Willie George Scholarship Fund, the Ryan Gibson Memorial Fund, the Harold Henson Scholarship Fund and the Bill Fleeman Memorial Scholarship Fund — awarded the scholarships to area high school graduates during a May 20 luncheon at James at the Mill in Johnson.
Lee Spencer, chairman of the NWACF Scholarship Committee, noted that the number of funds involved and scholarships awarded increase each year. This year’s new fund was established in April by Kim and Betsey Greehey in memory of her father, Bill Fleeman. Fleeman was a longtime area real estate developer and builder, who founded Car-Mart in 1981 and sold it in 1999.
NWACF, formed in 1999, has 58 funds totaling nearly $5 million.
