UHC Push

UnitedHealthCare of Arkansas is apparently planning a push into Northwest Arkansas. UHC, one of the nation’s largest managed-care payers, recently signed a three-year agreement with the Northwest Arkansas Independent Physicians’ Association. Under the terms of the agreement, which begins July 1, UHC will use the IPA’s network of health-care providers in Washington and Benton counties.

The IPA currently has about 240 physicians in the region.

UHC, we hear, will offer customers two types of products, an HMO and a point-of-service plan.

We hear both parties are happy about the agreement, which they’re viewing as a partnership rather than just a contractual arrangement.
