Washing silk screens in his bathroom sink and working a plywood press in his garage, Brooks Swink started down the road toward his career. Twenty years later, Swink’s hobby of designing and developing silk screens finally brought him to his own business.

After a previous business partnership dissolved, Swink started Brooks Graphics to serve individuals and industry in the area. Restaurants bring orders for work shirts, and sport teams often request matching shirts for their players. Real estate signs and bumper stickers are also design media for Swink.

Individual customers are also very valuable, Swink says. A customer might bring in a napkin scrawled with an idea for a graphic, and Swink says he works with the customers to produce what they want.

Developing original designs or planning company jackets, Swink says, he enjoys his work.

“A company like this is centered around graphics,” Swink says. “It never gets monotonous.”

To add to Swink’s daily variety, Brooks Graphics is preparing to move to another site within Fayetteville. Currently, the business resides in 15,000 SF, and the new location will be a cozy 4,000 SF.

The new location of Brooks Graphics will also depend on word-of-mouth for publicity, Swink says. Sales are the exception for advertising, however, because Swink recognizes graphic design’s abundant competition.
