FIRST Robotics Competition Arkansas kickoff event set for Harding Academy

The FIRST Robotics Competition Arkansas will host a kickoff event on Saturday (Jan. 9) at 9 a.m., at Harding Academy in Searcy.

The event is part of the worldwide 2016 FIRST Robotics Competition Kickoff Event featuring more than 114 locations and more than 75,000 high school students around the world.

According to a press release, the event will also “be shown the FIRST STRONGHOLD game field and challenge details for the first time, and will receive a Kit of Parts made up of motors, batteries, control system components, construction materials, and a mix of additional automation components – with limited instructions.” This reveal will be televised live via a Comcast NBCUniversal broadcast and webcast.

FIRST stands for For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology and was founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen. The organization has support from more than 200 of the Fortune 500 companies and includes more than $25 Million in college scholarships.
