Thelma Josephine Whittaker

Thelma Josephine Whittaker, age 91, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born on June 17, 1934, in Moffett, Oklahoma, Thelma was the beloved daughter of the late Oscar and Laura Dunn. She dedicated much of her working life to caring for others, serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant at both Mercy and Sparks Hospitals in Fort Smith. Her compassionate nature and commitment to helping those in need left a lasting impact on many lives. Thelma was also a faithful woman of the Baptist faith.

She will be lovingly remembered by her cherished granddaughter, Stacy Banning; her great-grandchildren, Bo, AshLynn, Alana, and Erica; four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Shirley.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Laura and Oscar Dunn; her son, Larry Banning, and her siblings, Jerry, Judy, Newt, Harold, Catherine, and Buckie.

Thelma’s memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.

Cremation is under the thoughtful care of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
