Fort Smith agencies get federal transportation money
The U.S. Department of Transportation has released $950,000 to purchase vans and buses for transportation organizations in Arkansas, according to a statement from the office of U.S. Sen. Blanche Lincoln, D-Ark.
The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will provide funds for local transit authorities and transportation companies to purchase buses, vans and security cameras. Funds will support urban and rural transportation, including service for the elderly and people with disabilities.
In the Fort Smith area, the Fort Smith Transit Department received $29,600 for a 13-person van, and Abilities Unlimited of Fort Smith received $29,117 for a 13-person van.
