The Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas board of directors has appointed Mary Grace Herrington as the council’s new president and chief executive officer. The announcement follows a nationwide search, which was initiated following Dawn Prasifka’s retirement announcement after 12 years of service.
Herrington assumed her role as head of the organization on Feb. 3.
“The board of directors selected Herrington for her alignment with the Girl Scout mission combined with her unique skill set and background in strategic nonprofit fundraising and managing multi-stakeholder environments,” said Kim Snipes, search committee chair, and chair of the board of directors.
As CEO, Herrington will lead roles as fundraiser, partner, and chief Girl Scout advocate.
“We are delighted to welcome Mary Grace to our legacy of sisterhood,” said the council’s outgoing CEO Dawn Prasifka. “Her vision and commitment to the Girl Scout mission are evident, and I am confident she will drive our council forward, building on our strong foundation.”
Herrington, a Girl Scout alum and nonprofit sector veteran of 20 years, joins Girl Scouts – Diamonds from Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, where she served as the director of development. Prior to that, Herrington held fundraising and nonprofit leadership roles in higher education and public media.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and a master’s degree in public administration from Drake University in Des Moines.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to lead an amazing and accomplished team for one of the world’s most recognized and respected movements. Experiences that build courage, confidence and character so that girls can realize their fullest potential contributed greatly to my growing up in Arkansas, and it’s an exciting time to give back in a meaningful way,” said Herrington.
With offices in Little Rock, Rogers, Fort Smith, and Jonesboro and active camp properties in Huntsville, Fort Smith, and Hot Springs, Girl Scouts – Diamonds of Arkansas, Oklahoma and Texas serves approximately 6,000 girls and adults across Arkansas.
