King to run for Sebastian County Quorum Court

Fort Smith businessman Wayne King is running for office for the first time as he seeks a seat on the Sebastian County Quorum Court.

King, a Republican, is running for District 11.

He cites as experience his work to begin several businesses involving the Internet, telephone and medical services. King, 66, now works as a Realtor.

Other political announcements in the county include:
Sebastian County Clerk Sharon Brooks, a Republican, is seeking re-election. She was first elected to the office in 2010 in an open race following the retirement of longtime Clerk Doris Tate.

Sebastian County Treasurer Judith Miller, also a Republican, is running again. She was first elected to the Treasurer’s office in 2008.

Denora Coomer, a 28-year veteran of the Sebastian County court system, announced Aug. 17 she will run as a Republican for the Circuit Clerk post now held by Republican Ken Blevins.

Chief Deputy Circuit Clerk Kathy Guthrie, a 14-year veteran of the Sebastian County Circuit Clerk’s office, announced Dec. 29 she will seek the office as a Democrat.

Sebastian County Judge David Hudson (R) and Sebastian County Assessor Becky Yandell (R) have also announced plans to seek reelection.

KING ANNOUNCEMENT

Local businessman Wayne King announced today his intention to file for the position of Justice of the Peace, District 11 for the Quorum Court in Sebastian County.

King stated that he feels it’s an opportunity for him to invest in the community, and his business experience will help him to make a positive contribution to the Quorum Court.  King’s background includes working with budgets, revenue forecasts and contracts.

King also said he wanted to be involved in county government to help improve county services by working with the Quorum Court members and county elected officials that administer county offices and departments.  He said he is also interested in the county pay study being completed this  year and recognizes the importance of the county employee’s in good county government.

King went on to say he believes our area is on the verge of some extra-ordinary growth opportunities in the next few years that will impact our region and our quality of life and make it a better place to work, live and play. This growth will change the dynamics of our region, especially the development of I-49, an aquatic park in partnership with the city, the possibility of a new river port, and a 12’ channel certified by the Corps of Engineers.

All of these will have a tremendous impact on the region, with enhanced transportation methods, on the roads, rails and the river. King said he is excited about these opportunities and would like to be a part of it by serving on the Quorum Court.

King is 66, will be running for his first public office on the Republican ticket. He is a local Realtor, was raised in Fort Smith, attended Fort Smith Public Schools, and Westark Community College, (now UAFS).

He has been involved in several business start-ups including Internet, telephone and medical services. He serves on the board of Arkansas Valley Habitat for Humanity, he and his wife Charlotte have three sons and seven grandchildren. He and his family attend First Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon.
