Police Make Presence Known
If you’ve driven through Rogers on Interstate 540 lately and wondered why city police are parked in the median with radar guns pointed at traffic, rest assured they’re not just out to bust hapless commuters rushing to get to work on time.
Public Information Officer Wayne Schoch of the Rogers Police Department said an officer and drug-sniffing dog on duty along the I-540 corridor are part of a task force looking for drugs or large amounts of cash.
Motorists can be pulled over for traffic violations, he said, but the objective is to catch drug traffickers, not line city coffers. Unless a ticket is for violation of a city ordinance, all fines collected go to the state no matter what law enforcement agency writes the ticket, Schoch said.
“There’s a myth about a quota system for tickets,” Schoch said. “But any police department caught doing that would be under very close scrutiny
