Anyone with Internet access and the right software is now able to view oral arguments presented by the Arkansas Supreme Court.

Chief Justice Jim Hannah made the announcement Sept. 12.

Video of the announcement can be viewed by visiting the court’s website. System requirements and links to software are available on the site.

The court said a camera system was installed last fall, and that testing of the software had been conducted through the summer.

Software and hosting are provided by Granicus Inc., of San Francisco, the same company used by the Arkansas House of Representatives.

The system will likely attract a big audience in late September, when the court hears the appeal of convicted killer Damien Echols, one of the “West Memphis Three.”

The court said it’s preparing to deal with the demand by freeing up bandwidth.
