Popular NWA restaurant closes its doors
It’s hardly shocking to see a restaurant shut down due to unpaid taxes. Fayetteville’s Soul Restaurant & Lounge, however, appeared to be popular enough to avoid problems paying The Man.
That’s why it caught us a little off-guard when Soul was shuttered recently for owing more than $30,000 in sales taxes. Now, instead of a chicken breast stuffed with Feta and wrapped in bacon, the only thing available at Soul are unopened newspapers wrapped in yellow plastic.
According to figures obtained via the Fayetteville Advertising and Promotion Commission, Soul had sales of $690,243 and $632,777, respectively, in 2008 and 2009. Additionally, Soul had sales of $150,212 through the first four months of the commission’s fiscal 2010.
Regardless, the 3,400-SF space is now for rent at a rate of $4,500 per month, according to Kirk Elsass of Lindsey & Associates. Elsass said Soul’s equipment remains in place, too.
Case Dighero and Steven Brooks were co-owners of Soul. Brooks also was the chef.
