Marcy Chavez, 33, got married young and fell into the role of housewife. But she soon found herself wanting to do something different, something that would make her feel more independent.

With an interest in real estate and a skill for working with people, Chavez decided to get her real estate license. Nearly six years later, she is one of the area’s top producing agents with $5.9 million in 2008 sales volume.

Chavez said her biggest accomplishment is seeing her clients’ happy faces when they find their dream home. She feels like she’s done her job well when clients come back to buy their second or third home.

Chavez said 95 percent of her clients are Hispanic and many of them do not speak fluent English. They trust Chavez to help them navigate the complicated process of buying a home.

The most important thing a Realtor can do for the homebuyer is to give them as much information as possible, she said.

“I think there would be less foreclosures if people are well-informed when they sign the paperwork,” she said.

Chavez hopes to get her broker’s license and eventually establish her own real estate company.

Her primary motivation comes from her three children and her promise to raise them in a better environment with greater opportunities than she had.

“They are the main reason I keep doing this,” she said.
