Sports books in Las Vegas give Arkansas basketball coach John Pelphrey a decent shot to earn nearly $2 million in his first year on the job.

Pelphrey, the second replacement to former coach Stan Heath following the one-day-and-done saga of Creighton coach Dana Altman last April, has incentive clauses in his contract that could raise his base pay of around $1.1 million to $1.95 million if Arkansas wins the national championship.

According to the future odds posted by the MGM Grand, Arkansas has 30-1 odds to win it all. UCLA is the favorite at 4-1 with Memphis just behind at 9-2. North Carolina is 5-1 and Kansas is 8-1.

The Razorbacks have the 14th-best odds (not counting the “field” at 25-1), tied with Marquette, Stanford and Syracuse.

The football team was also listed as a 30-1 to win the national championship back in July, but let’s hope Vegas is a little closer on this one.
