The Care Foundation Inc. is closing in on $4 million in grants for 2007.

Donations totaling $252,500 bring the year’s cumulative total to $3.99 million. The Care Foundation donated $207,500 to Ozark Guidance for inpatient acute mental health care and $45,000 to Monitor Elementary School in Springdale for playground equipment.

“The playground is a dream come true,” said Care Foundation board chair Chris Weiser. “This multiuse playground will be integrated into the school’s physical education programs as well.”

The Care Foundation was established in 1998 when Northwest Health System was sold and the assets were transferred into an endowment for the community.

On March 27, the Care Foundation approved $1.66 million in grants for education and health initiatives throughout Northwest Arkansas.

Those awards brought the foundation’s grant-making total to more than $30 million since 2000.
