KNWA Starts Keeping Score (Outtakes Opinion)
Just when you think no one’s keeping score, someone is.
NBC affiliate KNWA-TV has started running a tally of how many “Northwest Arkansas” stories it airs compared to KHOG-TV and KFSM-TV. That’s the number of stories in or about Benton, Madison or Washington counties, said Scott Pickey, the station’s news director.
What’s noticeably missing are tallies from KFTA-TV. The Fox affiliate has a 9 p.m. newscast and is produced by the KNWA team, an outsourced arrangement between station owners. But there’s no direct competition, Pickey said.
So far, KNWA nearly doubles its competitors’ coverage in the three counties, he said.
KNWA has also been running items from a local police report, complete with “Dragnet” or “Cops” theme music.
We’d critique them for running police items directly from another news organization, but we do it, too.
Sometimes crime is downright funny.
