J.B. Hunt Joins Matson in Trans-Pacific Service

J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. of Lowell is partnering with Matson Navigation Co. and its subsidiary, Matson Integrated Logistics of Oakland, Calif.
The agreement creates guaranteed, expedited service from two ports in China to Long Beach, Calif., and various U.S. inland destinations under a single invoice. Guaranteed arrival dates are unusual in maritime shipping, but the goal is to allow customers to save days in their supply chain cycles.
Customers can choose from a couple of service options. The first option, offered by Matson and MIL, will guarantee the transit time and delivery of shipments from Ningbo and Shanghai to the West Coast and selected inland destinations.
The second option involves partnering with J.B. Hunt to provide an expedited transload and inland point delivery option. It will provide Matson, MIL and J.B. Hunt customers the opportunity to gain economies of scale on inland transportation costs by reducing the number of container/trailers that are moved to the final destination.
The guarantee on both products will offer customers a percentage refund for shipments not meeting the stated transit time/arrival date.
