Wal-Mart to Roll Out Sam?s Clubs in Canada

Wal-Mart Canada Corp., a division of Bentonville-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., opened the first four Sam’s Club warehouse stores in Canada on Oct. 30 and said the warehouse outlets will become a national chain.r

Wal-Mart said Sam’s Club will focus on small businesses in Canada that tend to be big spenders.r

The first four Sam’s Clubs are in the Toronto area and there are plans for two more sites in southern Ontario by early 2004.r

Andrew Pelletier, a spokesman for Wal-Mart Canada Corp., said he couldn’t release long-term plans for the Sam’s Club expansion in Canada. Wal-Mart went into Canada in 1994 and currently has 216 of its brand-name discount stores there, he said.r
