Roger and Lari Williams, the owners of Hidden Surprise in Bentonville, said their company offers a new method of creative gift giving. It’s concept lets customers select a gift that’s then placed in a bucket or other container and covered with ribbons or novelty items such as coffee, candy or candles. The finished product is then topped with a card that reminds recipients not to forget about their “hidden surprise” inside the goodies.r

After only two months of operation, Lari Williams said the couple is pleased with the success of their business. The products, she said, are appropriate for corporate, personal or family gift giving.r

The shop has been busy as holiday orders start to pour in and word of their business spreads. Lari said she expects to go to about 12 different gift and food markets annually to keep the shop continually stocked with new and seasonal goodies.r

In the store, Lari makes fudge and Roger roasts and processes the store’s coffee. Lari finds their best selling products are the personalized ones. Coffee and candy labels can be customized for a corporate touch. r

The couple moved to Bentonville last January and said they’re thrilled with the area.r

“I wish we would of moved here 10 years ago,” Lari said.r

The couple plans to bring in seasonal help, but for now, they’re going it alone. The shop occupies 3,000 SF, but its showroom will be expanded 700 SF by early December. The Williams funded the venture but declined to disclose their startup costs.r

The Hidden Surprise concept and packaging have been patented, but franchising options are available. Lari said 12 investors have expressed interest.r
