WAC Gets Help From Walker Family
The Walton Arts Center is getting some help in its $1.2 million project to renovate Baum Walker Hall. The Willard and Pat Walker Charitable Foundation is providing $100,000 to help out with the renovations. Anita Scism, WAC president and chief executive officer, said much of the funding for the project is coming from the WAC’s long-term maintenance endowment and capital funds, but private donations will help make the renovations possible. Scism announced the donation on July 23 and commended Pat Walker for her dedication to the arts.
The renovations began July 20 and include replacement of the performance hall’s new seats, a new color scheme, stained concrete floors, lighting and a new curtain for the stage. The renovation project also includes retractable seating in the Starr Theater. Scism said the upgrades are designed for patron comfort and easier maintenance.
The renovations are expected to be complete in September.
The project is the second phase of WAC upgrades that started last year with the lobby, box office, gallery and McBride Studio, Scism said. Last year’s renovations cost about $543,000. The Walton Arts Center is 11 years old.
