Zinger?s Sports Bar & Grill Gets Three Stars (Business Lunch)
We heard a new restaurant opened in mid-September in the building that previously housed Macomber’s restaurant. So we headed toward Springdale to try it out.
Three of us met up with a Springdale businessman at Zinger’s Sports Bar & Grill.
The atmosphere was comfortable, and the restaurant had plenty of elbow room. We do believe if it indeed plans to be a true sports bar, it needs to add a couple more television sets so everyone can view games comfortably.
The restaurant was scheduled to get its beer license a few days later, but it was lunchtime so that was fine with us.
One diner thought he would give the bratwurst ($5) a try, since you don’t usually see those except at ball parks or tailgate parties. While not exactly Wrigley Field quality, the diner said the brat was “fine, just a little tough.”
He also ordered jalapeno poppers ($5) as an appetizer. He has tried that item at every place in Northwest Arkansas he’s been and proclaimed these to be “as good or better than anywhere else.”
Another diner at our table ordered the grilled chicken sandwich ($6) minus mayonnaise, plus spicy mustard. He got a sandwich with mayonnaise on it and honey mustard on the side. After a little scraping, though, he decided the chicken was safe to eat and thoroughly enjoyed his meal. He said the fries, too, were particularly good.
Another tried the cheeseburger ($6) with mustard, pickle and ketchup and thought it was a real hefty sandwich. The fries were great, too — not too thick and soft and not too much like shoestrings either.
Our Springdale guest had a regular hamburger ($5) and said it was “excellent.” He was also very complimentary of the fries, saying, “They’re not your typical fries.”
The wait staff could not have been more attentive, refilling our drinks well before we were rattling the ice.
For dessert, we ordered one piece of cherry pie ($3) that was split among three people. We all thought the pie was good, although one person at our table said he preferred more cherries and less gelatin in the middle.
Perhaps most enjoyable were the prices, which we believe to be among the best around. It was a nice break from paying $9 for a lunch sandwich.
It’s nice to see Springdale’s downtown business district get another restaurant, and we’ll check back soon to see what Zinger’s is like in the evenings.
