Traveler Gets Interview with Ex-president
The University of Arkansas’ student newspaper scooped the local media by landing a brief interview with former President Bill Clinton during his visit to campus on Oct. 21.
Ben Beaumont, sports editor of The Arkansas Traveler, said Skip Rutherford arranged the interview after Clinton’s speech dedicating a bronze statue of J. William Fulbright behind the UA’s Old Main building. Rutherford, a former Traveler editor, works for Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods, a Little Rock advertising agency. He also teaches every spring in the UA’s journalism department. Beaumont interned at CJRW last summer.
“I got to ask one question and a couple of follow-ups,” Beaumont said of his interview with Clinton. “Then they broke me off there, his adviser did. I got a good two or three minutes with him.”
The story was published in the Oct. 23 issue of the Traveler.
