Building a new house in Northwest Arkansas has been a popular thing to do for the last few years, and construction activity continues to surge. Mike and Karyn Bournival opened Unique Concepts to offer clients custom home designs.

Designing and building residences, the Bournival’s work closely with each client to create their ideal home, fitted with custom accents.

“Whether it’s the client’s first home or their fifth home, we want it to be an exciting, positive experience,” Karyn Bournival said, adding that round walls and spiraling staircases often accent Mike Bournival’s designs.

The husband and wife team manage Unique Concepts together, using Mike’s 20 years of experience as a civil engineer and general contractor to bring the designs to life.

Customer interaction sets Unique Concepts aside from other builders in the area, Karyn Bournival said. Rarities like corner fireplaces challenge most contractors, she said, but their new store welcomes such requests.

Because the couple ran a similar business in their former location of North Dakota, Unique Concepts cost less than $5,000 to start. A home office also lowered the initial overhead.

Several remodeling projects and a 5,000-SF new home in Springdale add to the current jobs for Unique Concepts, and Karyn Bournival said the company will also build from existing floor plans.
