Tammie Harp struck a compromise between lengthy window shopping and impersonal online shopping. Harp’s new business, Eweb 1st, allows customers to check out the shopping destinations in the area before they begin their trip.

“I still want to be able to go in a store and shop,” Harp said, noting that Eweb 1st doesn’t offer online shopping.

Retailers with existing Internet sites simply link to the directory, but most often Eweb 1st builds a page for the business. Pictures of the store’s products and a map with directions are included in the listing.

“It saves the customer time and money,” Harp said. “They love it.”

Since it’s opening, Eweb 1st has enrolled 37 local businesses that pay a fee to list their shops in the directory. Eureka Springs, Fayetteville, Bentonville and Siloam Springs all have businesses listed

“It costs businesses pennies per day [to be listed],” Harp said.

Customers checking out the site should not expect intricate design for the pages. Sparse text and simple design create an easy-to-read directory, Harp said.
