University of Arkansas sports marketing director Matt Shanklin says his department is trying to land a single major supporter for all UA athletics.

Currently, the department’s advertising is divided up according to what sports the sponsors are interested in. Alltel Corp. of Little Rock has the Razorbacks’ signage and the Alltel Trough for tailgating before football games. But Southwestern Bell bought advertising on the university’s football and basketball radio networks.

“Most schools are going to the all-inclusive sponsorship packages so there’s no opportunity to have ambush marketing,” Shanklin says.

Shanklin says the idea is only in the proposal stage of development, and that the university may continue its sports marketing as it is now.
