Educational program recognized by hospital association
Washington Regional Medical Center, was one of five honored Feb. 1 by the American Hospital Association with its prestigious NOVA Award, given annually to recognize innovative, collaborative projects designed by the hospitals to improve the health status of their respective communities.
Regional won for its Kids for Health program, a comprehensive health education program designed for children in kindergarten through third grade. Twelve instructors provide a half-hour of education weekly to each class in the 26 participating Washington County schools. Topics include self-esteem, body systems, nutrition, fitness, hygiene, safety and environmental health.
The program costs the school systems nothing and reaches 8,500 children.
