Penguin Ed Bids For B&B Bar-B-Q
Ed Knight, owner of Penguin Ed’s Bar-B-Q of Fayetteville, is trying to buy B&B Bar-B-Q, a Fayetteville landmark for the past 38 years.
“The offer has been made,” said Knight. “It’s pending some legal work.”
Knight says he hopes to have the deal completed by mid-October. B&B has been owned by Betty and William Bassett since it opened 38 years ago.
Knight started serving his famous Texas barbecue in 1993 from a tent at the intersection of Mission Boulevard and Crossover Road, where his restaurant is now located..
Knight says he needs the B&B location, at 230 S. East Ave, to use for catering in addition to still using it as a restaurant. The restaurant will continue to be known as B&B Bar-B-Q.
Knight says he will construct a new, pitched roof on the building that currently houses B&B. He also plans to add windows, new floors and to re-pave the parking lot.
“It’s a Fayetteville landmark that’s lost part of its shine,” says Knight. “We hope to shine it back up and invite Fayetteville back, which I hope to do within 30 days. This is a landmark. I want to keep it here. It deserves to stay. A lot of people came to eat here during ball game weekends. My big saying is going to be ‘Come on back.'”
Knight says B&B has catered events in Northwest Arkansas for President Bill Clinton and two former presidents, Jimmy Carter and Gerald Ford.
