Barry Cooksey, owner of Barry’s IGA at 1408 SW “A” St. in Bentonville, plans to break ground this month on a new, 36,000-SF IGA supermarket at the same location.

Cooksey says an IGA grocery store has occupied the site since 1959. He has owned the store for the past 13 years.

Cooksey says he hopes to have the new store completed by January. His current, 12,000-SF IGA store will remain open during the construction. The old building will be demolished after the new store, located just to the south of the old one, is opened.

Cooksey says the new store will allow him to compete with the larger supermarkets in Bentonville. The new store will provide space for a bakery, delicatessen, pharmacy and larger selection of groceries, he says.
