North Hills Breast Center Earns Biopsy Accreditation

Fayetteville’s North Hills Breast Center, which is part of Washington Regional Medical System, recently attained accreditation from the American College of Radiology for its stereotactic breast biopsy service.

The facility is only the third in Arkansas — and the first in the region – to be so accredited. The accreditation is voluntary and in addition to the mammography certification required of breast centers. The U.S. Department of Health, the Food and Drug Administration and the state of Arkansas all have accredited the center’s mammography services.

About one-third of the biopsies done at the center are stereotactic procedures.

Dr. Kevin Pope, the center’s radiologist, says accreditation requirements have helped improve care.
