And the winner is …
Several Northwest Arkansas entities received awards from the Economic Development of Arkansas Fund in mid-September. The University of Arkansas’ Genesis Technology Incubator got $500,000 of its $1.3 million request while the UA College of Business Administration got $300,000 of its requested $750,000.
The Two-Ton Water Loop, which is bringing water to areas of Washington and Benton counties, got the entire $600,000 it had sought while the city of Siloam Springs received $100,000 after asking for $250,000.
The Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce had sought $1.3 million to help develop a high-tech Fiberpark on the city’s west side, but the EDAF commission denied the entire request. Its reasoning? Apparently that the chamber couldn’t prove that the park would create new jobs.
The EDAF is the windfall the state collected from the estates of tycoons Sam Walton and Witt Stephens.
