The University of Arkansas has a way of attracting all kinds of people from all parts of the country. On Aug. 16, we saw Webster Hubble, the Little Rock lawyer convicted of overbilling clients while at the Rose Law Firm, at one of our favorite Mexican restaurants — La Huerta in Fayetteville.
Hubble said he was in town to visit his daughter, who is a student at the university.
We were in the private club section of the restaurant when the waiter seated us at a table next to Hubble and his group. Besides his family members, Hubble was dining with Chris Piazza, the former Pulaski County prosecuting attorney and current Second Division circuit judge, and members of his family.
They all seemed to be enjoying the afternoon. We can’t say for sure, but they appeared to be having some of the restaurant’s favorite margaritas. At least the drinks were in margarita glasses and had the familiar color of the drink.
Hubble, who also served as U.S. associate attorney general from January 1993 to March 1994, served 18 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to mail fraud and tax evasion.
