Downtown Building Being Renovated
A 53-year-old building adjacent to the Fayetteville square is being renovated with a $280,000 mortgage from McIlroy Bank & Trust of Fayetteville.
Lewis D. Jones, a Fayetteville lawyer, received the mortgage June 5. The loan is secured by the 5,230-SF building at 112 S. East St. It was signed by Jones and his wife, Mary John Jones.
Renovation plans include putting a new facade on the building and adding two more offices in the space. Work is scheduled for completion by Sept. 8.
The building houses Jones’ law firm of Jones Jones & Lushbaugh and the law office of Truman Smith. The Jones firm has moved to the NationsBank building on the square until the construction is over. The Smith firm continues to operate in the building.
Jones bought the building in 1969 and remodeled it in 1972.
