Dillons Closes Fayetteville Store
The Dillons Food Store in Fayetteville was to close July 25 after being open at the same location for 31 years. It was the last of three Dillons stores to pull out of Fayetteville.
During the 1960s, Dillons had 11 stores in Northwest Arkansas, says Tim Bellanti, general manager of the Springfield division of Dillons Cos., which is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kroger Co. Now, there’s only one Dillons left in Northwest Arkansas — in Prairie Grove.
“The Fayetteville market is over-stored right now,” says Bellanti. “It has too many grocery stores for the amount of volume available. There are a lot of grocery stores in Fayetteville right now that are right on the fence. Fayetteville is going through a shaking out period.”
Bellanti says Dillons, which concentrates primarily on Kansas and Missouri, may re-enter the Fayetteville market after the “shaking-out period.”
About 25 people were employed at the 22,000-SF store at 1901 E. Mission Blvd. in Fayetteville.
