Watsons Sell Supermarket to Bob?s Markets

Watson’s Supermarket will be sold to Bob’s Markets Inc. of Jasper effective Aug. 1.
The Watson family has operated a grocery business in Washington County since 1937 when Ottis Watson began selling produce from the back of his truck, says Jay Watson, Ottis’ grandson and current manager of the Watson’s Supermarket at 2523 E. Huntsville Road in Fayetteville.
The family built its first grocery store on Huntsville Road (Arkansas Highway 16) in the late 1940s, says Watson. Three different Watson’s grocery stores have existed at different times along Huntsville Road. The supermarket has been in its current location since 1995.
They approached us with an offer,” says Watson. “It was a good offer, and it was good timing.”
Bob’s Markets will retain Watson’s 55 employees. Bob’s currently has grocery stores in Jasper, Huntsville, Green Forest and Alpena.
