Blockbuster Video Plans Fayetteville Location

The Fayetteville Planning Commission will decide July 14 whether Blockbuster Video will be able to construct a 6,500-SF building on a two-acre lot along one of the city’s main entryways – Sixth Street, between the University of Arkansas and U.S. Highway 71.

Harry Gray, an engineer with Northwest Engineers, a division of Crafton, Tull and Associates Inc., says parking and a shared driveway with a neighboring business are two issues the commission will consider. Gray says Superior Properties Plus, which is representing Blockb uster locally, wants at least 40 parking spaces at the location.

A lot split, large-scale development plan and the final lease on the land must be approved before the project can go forward, says Gray. The land is owned by Daybreak Properties Inc. of Lebanon, Mo., and Blockbuster plans to sign a long-term lease on the property.

If the planning commission gives its blessing, construction could begin in late July, and the building could be completed by mid-October, he says.

Blockbuster Video already has one location in Fayetteville (at 3106 N. College Ave.), as well as stores in Rogers and Springdale.
