Southland, Oaklawn Demolish Egs Wager Records

Throw out the history books in Arkansas’ relatively short era of electronic games of skill (EGS) at its two racing parks – Southland and Oaklawn.
Southland, the West Memphis-based dog racing track and casino, demolished its single-month record for EGS wagers pulling in $90,487,174 in February. Payouts topped $85,355,366.
For Southland, February’s numbers are $18.9 million, or 26.5%, more than its previous best month ever, which was in January 2011 when wagers cleared $71.5 million.
At Hot Springs-based Oaklawn, boosted by the horse racing season, EGS wagers broke the monthly record by a mile. EGS wagers in February topped $49,734,766 with payouts exceeding $46,610,209.
Oaklawn’s February EGS totals were $5.5 million, or 12.7%, more than its previous monthly high of $44.1 million set in January 2011.
Track officials at both parks reported to the state racing commission that increases in foot traffic drove the higher wager figures.
Electronic games of skill, or EGS, include video blackjack, poker, craps and other games.
