The most recent employment data available for the Fayetteville-Springdale-Rogers MSA is for May and showed an uptick in jobless claims from 3.3 percent to 3.5 percent according to U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics.

The rate is down from the year’s high of 4.1 percent in February and virtually identical to the 3.6 rate from May 2006. Jobless claims were up 600 in May and preliminary numbers for June show the greatest declines were in government and education/health service sectors.

The unemployment rate in Arkansas tracked downward to 5 percent in June, still above the national average of 4.5 but less than 5.2 percent in May and the 5.3 percent in June 2006.
