Chiropractor Lynn Buhr took a hiatus from his longtime practice, Family Chiropractic Center, to open an exercise-pool club called Swimming Success.

“Swimming is the best overall exercise known to man,” Buhr said, adding that consistent pool exercise isn’t stressful for the body.

The heated, 1,584-SF pool will be available for members of Swimming Success during certain hours of the day. Organized water-aerobics classes and rehabilitation sessions will fill the remaining time. Buhr plans to use the pool for occasional water-sport tournaments, such as water polo and volleyball, by mid-June.

Not including a $35 sign-up fee, people can join Swimming Success with a monthly toll of $45 for singles, $75 for couples and $90 for families. An annual fee of $365 is also offered.

Start-up costs for the business topped $175,000, Buhr said, because he paid for construction of the building and pool. Unexpected high gas prices have been a major initial challenge for Swimming Success, Buhr said. Although he budgeted less than $500 to heat the building and pool per month, the business’ gas bills have reached $2,200.
