rLike pieces of a lucrative puzzle, trucking industry carriers, receivers, manufacturers and brokers all fit together to deliver goods around the nation. Brokers often make the puzzle come together, hiding seams and coordinating deliveries.

rFreight Direct Inc. opened in Rogers to organize the puzzle pieces. Since its introduction in July, Freight Direct has brokered cargo for 175 different carriers in eight states, said Donald Deal, operations manager.

rThe brokers welcome single jobs and long-term contracts for delivery.

r”There’s a lot of competition out there,” Deal said, “but it’s like anything, you just have to work hard.” He came to Freight Direct with more than two years of freight experience.

rBecause the brokers don’t own any of the trucks used for transporting the goods, the business cost less to start up than other truck-related operations. Deal would not name a total cost figure, but he said the insurance and permits did get a bit expensive.

rIn a 640-SF office, a staff of two people use technology to make freight transit happen on schedule. Cellular phones, fax machines and computers allow Freight Direct to arrange jobs with any of 10,000 carriers in the United States, Deal said.
