Bur Edson, the Fort Smith news director for KFSM, had no comment concerning the column by Richard Speer.

But one of Speer’s former peers in Arkansas said Speer wasn’t the most ethical journalist on earth. Apparently, he once got a free hair transplant for doing a story about a Fort Smith doctor who performed the operations.

Speer said the Newsweek column didn’t concern the ethical issues of TV journalism.

“I don’t want to get into the specifics of that particular thing [the transplant],” Speer said. “That’s not really what this [column] was concerned about. This was about being a TV personality.”
