The stress of driving up and down aisles at the airport parking garage looking for a spot just got a little lower. The Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport showed off its new high tech parking guidance system to navigate drivers to empty spaces.

The new system, named SmartPark, contains brightly colored lights with sensors over each of the parking deck’s 851 spaces.

A green light indicates the space is open. Red indicates it’s taken. Blue indicates the parking space is open for those with a disabled driver placard.

The technology is the first of its kind in Arkansas and only at three other airports in the nation: Baltimore, Dallas-Fort Worth and Portland.

SmartPark cost about $500,000 to install, according to airport officials.

It is a part of the airport’s overall $2.8 million parking improvement program, which replaced outdated ticket and payment equipment. With the new system, Clinton National Airport becomes the first airport in the country to reach EMV chip and pincredit card compliance standards that are mandated by October.

The airport has no current plans to raise parking rates due to implementation of the parking guidance system.
