The Myers Motors electric car is in Fort Smith and will be a display item at the 2nd Annual Earth Fest held April 18 at the Western Arkansas Nature Center located at Fort Chaffee.

Delivered from the Myers Motors plant in Tallmadge, Ohio, to Dale Alimena, director of ECCOpartners, the electric car was put into “edu-action” by displaying at area events and demonstrated at area schools.

ECCOpartners is sponsoring the Earth Fest event, which begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 2 p.m. ECCO Partners is a public outreach division of the Sebastian County Regional Solid Waste Management District.

According to Myers Motors, the car is the nation’s first all-electric (110 volt outlet charging), highway speed (76 mph), lithium battery powered, sub-$30,000 vehicle.

The vehicle is part of Earth Fest’s Environmental Solutions Exhibit, which also will include displays on geothermal energy, solar energy, wind energy, as well as other practical green living solutions.

Other events planned include:
• The Army Corp of Engineers will sponsor trips, including tours, to the Lock and Dam at Springhill Park.

• The Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, an educational, nonprofit organization dedicated to the responsible enjoyment and active stewardship of the outdoors, will host workshops on responsible environmental practices in camping and other outdoor activities.

• The Irish band, Cold Water Dog, will provide the musical entertainment. Cold Water Dog is a group of men, based in Fort Smith, of widely varied origins, professions and musical range. “Several fiddles, mandolins, guitars, flutes, pipes and whistles, button accordion (box), bodhran, other assorted instruments and voices are all used to achieve this group’s warm and full Celtic-global sound,” according to the ECCOpartners statement.

• Giveaway of 2,000 seedling trees.

• Environmental Solutions Exhibit, which also will include displays on geothermal energy, solar energy, wind energy, as well as other practical green living solutions.
