Fort Smith health care forum canceled
Fort Smith Mayor Ray Baker has called off a health care forum planned for today (Mar. 31) at 7 p.m. at the Fort Smith Convention Center.
The Mayor, then citing a need to focus on the declining quality of health care in the Fort Smith area, announced the forum Mar. 17 at a regular meeting of the Fort Smith Board of Directors.
“Both major health centers will be participating,” Baker said when he announced the event.
However, both major health centers (Sparks Health System and St. Edward Mercy Medical Center) wanted more time and asked Mayor Baker to postpone the forum.
Mayor Baker would not say if he thought the pending sale of Sparks to Jackson Healthcare was behind the request to postpone.
