Nancy Paulette Scott of Fort Smith, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, November 3, 2025, at her home. She was born on February 9, 1940, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to the late Junior McGee and Juanita D. (McCrobie) McGee. She was 85 years old.

Raised in a military family, Nancy moved to Barling, Arkansas, in 1954. Two years later, she went on a double date with a friend. Afterwards, the usually shy William Scott decided to ditch his date and ask Nancy out. “It was love at first sight,” he said. The couple married two years later on July 3rd, 1956. After William completed a military tour of duty in 1963, the young couple returned to the mainland (Arkansas) from their base in Hawaii to begin building a life together. Things were tough for a while, but the Scotts made it through.

In the spring of 1970, Nancy made a declaration of faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized as a member of First United Methodist Church, Fort Smith. The Scotts decided it was time to settle down because Nancy was expecting that summer. The couple celebrated the birth of their only child, Vincent, in June of the same year.

In 1985, after working in various administrative roles, Nancy accepted the position of chief administrative assistant of First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith, retiring in 2013 after 28 years.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Don Scott; a son, Vincent Scott of Fort Smith; and two grandchildren, Kiaya Stanley and Questin Scott of Fayetteville.

Nancy’s ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Cremation Services in Fort Smith, 914 N. 32nd St., Fort Smith, AR 72903. (479) 434-3901 or (479) 965-8202.

The family kindly asks that any memorials in Nancy’s honor be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Please do not send flowers or gifts. We do sincerely appreciate your care and concern.
